On Tuesday evening, members of SWO Angels attended Pillar Nonprofit Network’s Social Enterprise Spring Showcase.
All in all, the event was very enjoyable, with great company and great conversations.
Pillar’s Social Enterprise Coach, Julie Forrester moderated the panel discussion and Social Enterprise & Social Finance Director, Andre Vashist. Hosted the overall event.
The keynote speaker, David Thuss, from London Brewing Co-op, shared with the audience the role of the co-op sector in the social enterprise movement. Then the diverse panel of social enterprise experts (David Billson, from rTraction; Megan O’Neil-Renaud, from the Canadian Red Cross; Steve Cordes, from Youth Unlimited Opportunities; Kay Habib, from SkillDecor; and Lore Wainwright, from Pillar’s Innovation Works) discussed in detail and at length how to connect the heart of social impact with the business financial viability. And five extraordinary social entrepreneurs (from Yotuni, SkillDecor, Urban Roots London, Abilities in Motion, SEED Learning, and The Abby Fund), the graduating class from Pillar/Libro Credit Union Incubator program, inspired the audience with stories around their social entrepreneurial journeys.

There is also a standing invitation to book a tour at Innovation Works, the 32,000 square foot building located in the heart of London’s Downtown. Innovation Works has been intentionally designed to attract incredible people, get them talking about one another’s ideas, and offer the supports they need to turn those ideas into an achievable plan.
