SWO Angel Group

Investor Meeting Highlights

November 22, 2018

We were in a celebratory mood this morning as we gathered for our second last Investor Meeting of 2018. The snow and cold temperatures certainly set the tone for the upcoming holiday season. But so does the performance of our members’ portfolio companies. Notably, last week VanRX was listed #1 on the 2018 Deloitte Canadian Technology Fast 50 list. We also recapped an active year of investing, with more than $3.7 million invested in 7 companies, and a few financings still left to close before the end of the year.

Snapshots of the 3 ventures who presented this morning are included below. Deeper dives with company principals are also scheduled as noted – details of location and dial-in to be provided separately, or on request.

Investment Update: Funding closings are expected before the end of the year in Chatterhigh, led by SWO Angels, ColdBlock Technologies, and Joyride who presented earlier this year. Due diligence continues with last month’s presenters SensOR Medical and BrainFX.

Event Update: Our next Investor Meeting is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Thursday December 20, followed by a holiday reception at the Highland Country Club. Also consider joining us at the Royal York in Toronto on December 12 for the Angel Investors Ontario AGM and holiday networking reception. Please let me know if you are an accredited investor and interested in attending either or both.

November Presenting Companies:

Staffy is an app that takes a radical approach to solving staffing challenges within the hospitality sector. They are the first to create this new on-demand marketplace that enables businesses to quickly and efficiently connect with skilled contractors to meet their immediate, short-term or long-term staffing needs. For contractors, they provide the opportunity to instantly pick up shifts tailored to their skills, experience, and schedule.

Massively.ai is a conversational marketing platform. They build chatbots that people want to talk to. These chatbots answer customer questions 24/7, make recommendations, deliver a service and seamlessly connect to a real person when required. Massively’s conversational marketing platform enables an entirely new way to think about marketing: listening rather than simply talking, individualized instead of mass-produced, invited and not pushed.

Deeper dive: Monday December 3

Fable is an accessibility platform that businesses use to engage people with disabilities in accessibility testing. The key problem they solve is that companies don’t know how to build accessible digital products and are afraid of being sued by people with disabilities or penalized for non-compliance with regulations. Making products accessible after they have been built is also very costly.

Deeper dive: Wednesday December 5

All three also presented earlier this week to our angel group Alliance partners, Golden Triangle Angel Network (GTAN) and Angel One Network. Now we will assemble the interested members of all three groups into coordinated due diligence and possible syndicated investment.
